Freak of the Week

Sorry for missing the FotW yesterday (my parents came to visit)!  I hope you’ll let me make it up to you by posting it today.  Also, I’m hoping you all find it way more challenging than the last few ones.    amischiefofmice  answered last week’s ID of an Aye-aye within about 2 minutes of me posting it; Congratulations, but now I’m going to make it harder!

This bone was donated to the museum quite a few years ago, but we have no additional information about what happened to the individual from which it came.  Obviously, it is not very normal looking!  This week I’m looking more for which bone it is, as it may be almost impossible for you to infer what species — kudos to you if you can, though!  Although it may look completely indiscernable, there are still a few distinguishing characteristics present which the students in our Vertebrate Osteology class were able to use to deduce an identification.  So, what bone is it, and what do you think caused its severe abnormality?

Can’t wait! Until I’m a zoologist :)
